What Would Everyone Else Do?

By Callum Carseline

Every now and again you meet a young athlete that really gets it! Callum Carseldine is one such athlete. A young man that displays maturity and leadership beyond his years, a man that bleeds passion and intensity. A young man that brings it to every single session and has done so for the last 3 years. He has never made an excuse or missed a scheduled session in that time. Hence, I feel he is well versed to deliver this article.

The success I want to achieve in my life is something only a minority have done. To become a part of the minority, I constantly look at what the majority are doing, and desperately force myself to do the exact opposite. This isn’t about being deprived and alone, it’s about achieving my potential and living an extraordinary life.

So let me ask you:

What would everyone else do?
They’d probably have a quick think about their training or game during the car trip home and then forget about it for the rest of the week.

What will I do?

I’ll take 20 minutes when I get home to evaluate my training and games to ensure that I acknowledge what I did well and learn from what I didn’t do well.

What would everyone else do?

They’d probably do the team warm up and team warm down.

What will I do?

I’ll get up an hour earlier in the morning and do an hour of stretching so that I’m more flexible and ready than anyone else. I’ll slip out into the back rooms after training and do an extra 15 minutes of warm down stretching so that I recover quicker than anyone else.
These are a few personal examples that represent my message however, when I look beyond myself and at people like Joey Hayes and you, my fellow strongman athletes, I become determined to ask myself this question over and over again, because I’m part of a group that asks themselves that question every  Saturday morning.

What would everyone else do?

They’d probably just sleep in till 8 or 9.

What will we do?

We will get up at 5 or 6 with a relentless attitude to work our bodies into the ground because we refuse to follow the crowd, we refuse to be average, WE REFUSE TO BE LIKE EVERYONE ELSE!

Therefore, I’m challenging us as individuals and as members of the strongman group, to continue to go against what everyone else is doing, not because it’s comfortable and not because everyone will approve of it but because we want to achieve our potential and live an extraordinary life!
